Blazing Hula

Aug. 26, 2002 * 5:14 p.m.

Well, she survived Festival and has even been trying to recruit friends to go next year! A good sign, to be sure. We had a splendid time, with only one bit of bad news upon our return - the pooch got skunked (P.U.)! Also, one day while I was there I got sick, but a disgusting-but-effective tea of cayenne pepper, ginger and garlic knocked it out of me. Unfortunately, a couple days after our return, I got sick again and am still recovering. :P

We particularly enjoyed the Strap-On and the S/M Workshops, although I ran into my good friend Q's ex there...ewwww! (And in the showers - ewwww again!) We also went to a Pirate Party in the Twilight Zone - it was interesting to watch other people doing things to each other, but the pacing was a little slow. And, of course, the average person just isn't as attractive as most stars - movie, porn, or otherwise. So we left a little early. Anyway, we had our own fun... ;)

By far the most amazing thing that happened was on Sunday night, during the candlelight concert, where hundreds of women gathered under a clear, dark, starry sky. We listened to Irish singing and African drumming and unusual instruments and so on, and then a beautiful Hawaiian woman got up to do a hula dance. She said it was a blessing for the earth, and showed us the movements for protection, peace, love, and truth before she began. In the middle of her dance, a gigantic ball of light blazed from one end of the sky to the other. When I say gigantic, I mean as big as a harvest moon. At first we thought it must be fireworks. But it wasn't. It was a meteor (I assume) closer than any of us had ever experienced. It was truly incredible. And at the end of her dance, instead of humming "mmmmm" (as is customary during the candlelight concert in place of clapping), everyone broke into wild applause. We thought she must have felt pretty powerful that night. :)
